Organising A Get-Away: Is It Really As Difficult As Everyone Thinks?

I am so thrilled. Why? Well, I just reserved our flights to London! We are going on holiday! I must say, finally deciding on the right holiday destination was quite a task. I wanted one thing and my partner wanted something completely different! Next time we book, I’ll ensure that I will follow the guidelines my friend passed on to me that helped me to choose the best vacation spot.

You’ve got to be prepared; know what you would like and what you don’t want. That way, you ensure a hassle-free, stress-free holiday. You’re actually going on holiday to try to unwind a little, so the very last thing you need is to worry about minor details. Pick your destination: start big and decide on a country or town you would like to visit. This should help you narrow down hotel and accommodation options. If you are taking some time off work, I suggest you take full advantage of it and go overseas. We reside in South Africa and neither of us has ever been abroad. That’s why we decided on London: first of all mainly because we are very enthusiastic about and captivated by very old, vintage and distinctive buildings and architecture. I am also a part-time digital photographer and love to take photographs of these structures to include in my profile. Secondly because we know somebody there and could visit them. We’d also have our very own personal tour guide! We did, however, choose to book into a nice upmarket hotel. And were we surprised when we saw the wide selection of hotels, motels, lodges, and bed and breakfasts online! We did not know which ones to consider and which ones to skip. We did not know where any of the tourist attractions in London were, so we couldn’t have a look at accommodation near to them. And yes, we could probably have looked at a guide, but neither of us is any good with directions, so it may have ended up disastrous. Nevertheless, we’ve selected a hotel and hope that everything works out fine.

After reserving our accommodation and flights to London, we set out “activity hunting”. We need to know what activities and sight-seeing opportunities London offers so we will have something to do while we are there! Plan your vacation based on days. I usually draft an itinerary which includes all our important info: our ticket numbers, flight numbers, booking references and times of departure and arrival; our hotel accommodation booking confirmation, the address, contact number and contact person; our rental car reservation number, pick up and drop off dates, times and destinations as well as a list of all the activities we would like to do, their addresses, how to get there and any other important information. Yes , it may sound a bit over the top, but I like being well prepared: better safe than sorry!

After everything we searched and planned for, reserving our flights to London was the easiest. So, if you are planning a trip anytime soon, remember: always be well prepared, pay attention to the smaller details: rather safe than sorry!
